Southwold beach huts in colourful rows below the lighthouse

Beach huts, pier & Adnams

Southwold Holiday Lets

Southwold is the most searched-for town on the Suffolk coast, and for good reason. Painted beach huts, a working pier, Adnams brewing in the middle of town and a lighthouse standing in among the houses. If you are looking for a Southwold holiday let, this is where we would start.

We manage a small, hand-picked collection near Southwold rather than a catalogue of hundreds. Every property is inspected in person, turned over by our own local team and styled to a hospitality standard, which is the difference you feel on arrival rather than in the listing photographs.

Booking direct with us means no platform service fee, a real person on the phone in Suffolk, and somebody close by if anything needs sorting during your stay.

What a Southwold holiday actually looks like

Mornings on the beach below the huts, a walk out along the pier to the water clock, and lunch at one of the pubs on the High Street. Afternoons split between the Adnams shop, the independent shops along Queen Street, and the crossing over the Blyth to Walberswick, either over the bailey bridge or on the rowing ferry in season.

Southwold rewards slowness. Most people who come once come back, and the ones who book a week rather than a weekend are always the ones who look most relaxed on Friday.

Southwold cottages to hire, what to look for

Parking is the single thing guests most often overlook. Central Southwold streets are tight and the free spaces go early in summer, so a property with allocated parking is worth paying a little more for.

Then decide how close to the sea you actually want to be. A cottage on the seafront is glorious in July and exposed in February. Something a couple of streets back is usually warmer, quieter and cheaper, and still a five minute walk to the sand.

If you are bringing a dog, check the beach restrictions for the dates you are travelling, as sections of Southwold beach are seasonally restricted between May and September while the stretch toward Walberswick stays open year-round.

Eating and drinking

The Lord Nelson and the Sole Bay Inn cover proper pub territory. The Swan on Market Place is the smart end of the town for dinner. For fish and chips there is a queue on the harbour in summer for a reason, and the smokehouses along Blackshore are the thing to bring home.

Book ahead for August and half-term weekends. Southwold fills up completely and walk-ins get tricky after six.

When to come

July and August are the classic weeks and the busiest. June and September are our favourites, the sea has warmed up, the light is long and the town breathes again. Winter Southwold, with a wood burner and an empty beach, is a genuinely underrated weekend.

Frequently asked

Questions guests ask us

How far in advance should I book a Southwold holiday let?

For school holidays and August, three to six months is sensible. Shoulder season and winter weekends are often available a few weeks out.

Are Southwold holiday lets dog friendly?

Several of ours are. Filter for pets when you search availability, and check seasonal dog restrictions on the main Southwold beach between May and September.

Is there parking in Southwold?

There is pay and display parking plus limited on-street space, and both fill early in summer. Properties with their own parking are worth prioritising.

Is it cheaper to book direct?

Yes. Booking on our own site removes the guest service fee the big platforms add, which is typically in the region of 12 to 18 percent.

How many properties do you have in Southwold?

We keep our Southwold collection deliberately small. Check live availability to see what is bookable for your dates, and talk to us if nothing fits, we may have something nearby on the coast.
